Here are some common terms used in banner advertising:




 

  • Clicks – number of visitors who click on the banner ad
  • Banner Views – number of times that the banner ad is displayed or has been requested by the browser
  • Cost Per Thousand (CPM) – amount based on per thousand views or impressions
  • Click Through Rate (CTR) – percentage of total number of visitors of a web page who click on the banner ad
  • Cost per Sale – refers to the amount of money spent on advertising before making a sale
  • Branding – creates or increases brand awareness
  • Run of Site (ROS) – less targeted form of advertising, displaying a banner ad on all general ad spaces of a site
